This is a variation of the traditional slap game for two players.
Here are the rules:
① The initial state of the two players is hands in front of the body, palms facing each other, together, fingertips facing forward. The two players stand with their left foot in front of them and the tip of their right foot touching the heel of their left foot.
The tips of the two players’ front feet touch each other.
② Two players take turns attacking, while one player attacks, the other defends. When attacking, players can fan each other’s hands with any one hand, such as hitting the back of the hand, it is a “successful attack”;
A defending player can stagger his hands up and down to avoid an attack, and if he catches the attack with the opposite palm of the attacker’s hand, it is a “successful defense”.
③ In each turn, the successful attack‘s player pulls back on his front foot and moves behind his back foot (taking a step backwards), while the other player keeps his back foot still and puts his front foot forward to touch his opponent’s toe, and remains standing (similar to a split). The same goes for successful defense.
④ The two players need to keep silent during the game.
If anyone make a sound or lose balance, he/she lose.
Critical Reflections
1. If the player is resilient, then theoretically he can split more, which means he can afford to lose more times.
By the same token, if the player has strong arms, there should be a higher chance that the attack will succeed and throw the opponent off balance.
If the player does not have a physical advantage, he can use the opposite hand’s palm to catch the opponent’s attack to win, but this also requires considerable reflexes to execute.
2. The traditional hand slap game doesn’t include “splits”, which puts those players who are not that physically strong at a huge disadvantage, most notably for women, which cause a phenomenon that most of women don’t want to play this game.
But with the addition of the “splits”, it gives women, who are more resilient per capita, a way to compete with sheer strength.
3. In addition, the “try not to make any noise” rule makes the game itself more witty, less “hardcore” and serious, and adds a new challenge to the physical pain of hand slaps.
